Synopsis

Having assisted filmmakers like Kundan Shah, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sudhir Mishra made his debut, Yeh Woh Manzil To Nahin, in 1987. Mishra has been making films for almost forty years. His cinema, anxious about our place in the world as revolutions tide over and disillusionments creep in, as our material reality is flung in the face of our idealism and our ideologies congeal into venom, tells the emotional history of India. He has been secreting his deeply politicized, but rarely polemical films at the margins of both mainstream cinema and what is usually called art cinema. Over the course of his career, he has received three National Film Awards from the Government of India and the prestigious Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the Government of France. How does a career last four decades? What gets lost? What gets built? Mishra will be in conversation with Nikkhil Advani, an equally prolific director who began his career writing for Mishra’s Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin in 1996.
